Bangkok’s sights are liable to cause sensory
overload, from the dazzling temples to the
constant crowds. Fortunately, when visitors feel
they need a break, there are plenty of opportunities
for a day trip or an overnight stay away from the city.
Tour operators can arrange undemanding and
entertaining trips to nearby attractions, such as
the Floating Market and the Ancient City. For an
excursion with more cultural content, head for
the ruins of Ayutthaya, the country’s ancient
capital, or Kanchanaburi, where the bridge over
the Kwai River and the Allied cemeteries mark
