Windows tries to figure out which programs have a legitimate need to access the
folders on the list, but it doesn’t always guess right. If it seems to be blocking an app
that does deserve access, hit “Allow an app through Controlled folder access” and then
choose its name.
While you’re here, you can choose some Exclusions (folders, files,
file types, or programs) that you don’t want Defender to monitor
for infection.
Finally, Notifications is where you can adjust how often Defender
bugs you with messages in the Action Center about its activities.
Some people, for example, turn off “Recent activity and scan
results”—they don’t want to be alerted every time Defender runs a
scan and doesn’t find anything amiss.
