Room with a
CLUE
Each month, we’ll
show you a room from
a house of signi!cance
and ask you to work out
either what the house
is, or who lived there.
There’s a prize up for
grabs, so see if you can
solve the riddle…
(Answer printed in the Special 2020 issue)
A poetic inspiration
This 17th-century cottage has a plain
simplicity that belies the creative
poetic outpouring it inspired in its most
famous inhabitant. The house was the
beloved home of a Romantic literary
figure, who lived here for eight years
with his sister. The property is set in an
idyllic rural location – the perfect spot
to wander into the countryside to admire
the daffodils and other flora. These days Ian G Dagnall/Alamy Stock Photo
around 70,000 visitors descend each
year to marvel at this charming place of
‘plain living and high thinking’.
