Exploring Alaska

a vast wilderness of virgin rivers, towering mountain
peaks, abundant wildlife, and calving glaciers, alaska
is by far the largest state in the United states. its sheer
size means that travel takes up a fair proportion of a
visitor’s time. however, the state has an excellent
transportation and tourism infrastructure, which
caters to 1.5 million visitors each year, most of whom
arrive during the brief summer season from late May
to early september. Good roads connect anchorage,
Fairbanks, and other cities, but much of southeast
alaska – including the capital city of Juneau – are Barrow ARCTIC OCEAN
inaccessible by road. Ferries, planes, and cruise ships
connect coastal towns, while remote bush villages are King Salmon Antler’s Inn, outside Katmai NP, Atqasuk Teshekpuk Deadhorse Kaktovik
