stands by Rey’s side and accompanies her as she
searches for Luke Skywalker.

hen Finnish actor Joonas Suotamo stepped into Peter Mayhew’s shoes to
play Chewbacca, he found they were very big shoes—but he was up for the
challenge. “You must interpret the role your own way,” he says. “But I think
Wwe did a good job, everyone involved, in making the suit the best it could
be, and I tried to do the best I could to be true to the character’s past history and brought in
new things when appropriate.”
The former basketball-player-turned-actor adds, “I am a very happy person whenever
I’m in the costume. When everyone sees Chewie, they don’t see me, they see Chewie. And
that means I did my job inside the suit. I wanted to give people a glimpse of what they had
seen of Chewie before. That was my goal.” a
