Anaheim opened with The Force Awakens
panel, and Kathleen Kennedy walked onto
S the stage wearing Her Universe’s lightsaber
T-shirt. Did you know that was happening?
Ashley Eckstein: No, I had no idea that Kathleen
Kennedy was going to wear our T-shirt [laughs]. It
was such an exciting surprise. I did know that she
bought it, but I thought that she was wearing it to
dinner the night before. So I thought that she had
already worn it and the last thing I expected was for
her to walk out on stage in our tee. It’s like when Kate
Middleton wears something and then everyone goes
crazy for it. I’m so grateful, and I now call it the
Kathleen Kennedy shirt! I feel like she is an icon.
Not only is she a fangirl icon, but I feel like she’s just
an icon for all fans. And if you see Kathleen Kennedy
wearing something, naturally in your head you think,
I now have to own a white blazer to pair with that T-shirt
because she looks so fantastic.

Her Universe offered several new items and styles at
Celebration. How did the new pin-up dresses go over?
It was great. The fans were incredibly supportive and
luckily we had a dressing room at the show. We had
long lines, but everyone was patient. This was our fi rst
foray into a lot more fashion-forward designs, so we

learned a lot and definitely got everyone’s feedback—
good and bad—and we’re going to be improving on
that. It was a really exciting con; the lightsaber skirt
and cardigans were the most popular items.
