FIGHT OR FLIGHT?
Hello, boys and girls! My name is Little Red Riding Hood, and
I’m about to skip through the woods with a basket of goodies to
take to my grandmother’s cottage. What’s that you say? Maybe
I should mail them instead? Nonsense! I’ve traipsed through
this magical forest countless times, and no harm has ever come
my way. Ignore those silly warnings about killer animals. What
could possibly go wrong for me, or my muffins? Off we go…
Falcon
Hey, birdbrain! Bet you think you’re
going to swoop down and get those
razor-sharp talons into this red riding hood,
or puncture me with that sharp beak. I know
you’re just defending your territory… I’ll
duck into the forest so that I’m harder to
single out. I’m not going to panic or run,
but I’ll stare right into your beady eyes.
Polar Bear
Mister Polar Bear, you sure are
a long way from home, but I know
what to do. I’ll stare at the bear as I back
away slowly to a safe shelter. That cape
trick to look bigger might come in handy.
Grandma won’t mind if I drop a few
muffins as I retreat. The bear might
stop and sniff them, buying me
a little extra time.
beware of
the animals
Mountain Lion
I’d be lying if I didn’t admit that
you, lion, are a tiny bit scary. I’ll stay
calm and steady as I walk backward and
stand up tall and straight while talking to
the lion in a normal voice so that it
understands that I am not a threat. I might
just hold my red cape up over my head
to make me look bigger. In a cat
attack, it’s better to fight
back than run away.
