Tough terrain
Watch your step while navigating
the jungle, as mud holes and quicksand
can take you by surprise. Use a machete
to chop through the thick undergrowth,
JUNGLE but don’t hack your leg off in the process!
By the evening, happy campers should
choose an area with care and avoid river
beaches—if heavy rain falls overnight,
PERILS! your tent will be swept away.
Help! It’s a jungle in here: hot, humid, and
heaving with bugs. Getting lost is easy, as
everything looks the same—green! Maps
won’t help, so your best bet is to take
a guide. If you’re alone, don’t panic—
here are the handiest hints
to ensure you make it
out alive…
Hidden killers
Need to cool off? If you want to take a dip, check
for alligator and caiman tracks where you
choose to swim. These predators love to lurk
near the water’s edge. It’s a similar story
with hippos: they may look cuddly, but
keep your distance—hippos are very Hothouse
territorial and will attack swimmers.
Budding Tarzans should take it easy in
the jungle. Nothing can prepare you for
the heat and humidity, so don’t push
yourself too hard. As you move around
the jungle, be sure to keep drinking.
If you sweat more than you drink,
you’ll get dehydrated, and this can
lead to severe heat stroke.
