Revamped and re-landscaped, the almshouse in 1804 on the site of
Westerpark is a pleasant slice of what was once a brewery. For
greenery sandwiched between the decades it provided sheltered
Haarlemervaart canal and a railway lodgings for the poor and needy
embankment. Waterfowl swim and, although it’s more upmarket
around the park’s ponds, and joggers today, it remains a tranquil spot.
