MOUNT FUJI IN ART
With its graceful, almost
symmetrical form, its
changing appearance
with the seasons, and
its dominance over the
landscape, Mount Fuji
has always been a pop
ular subject for artists.
The mountain features
in various ukiyoe,
including Katsushika
Hokusai’s Thirty-Six
Views of Mount Fuji
(1830–32), and Fifty-
Three Stages of the
Tokaido (1833–4), by
Hiroshige. In other arts,
Mount Fuji is ech oed in
decorative motifs, for
instance on kimonos,
