ONTARIO
Ontario is justly famous for its history and natural
beauty. The myriad lakes and waterways that dominate
the landscape here once served as trade highways
through the wilderness for First Nations people and
explorers. The Saint Lawrence is one of the world’s
great waterways and begins near the small, historic
city of Kingston.
North of Lake Ontario lies the Canadian Shield,
with the ancient lakes, rocks, and forest that epitomize
Canada. A favorite with many Canadian vacationers,
Algon quin Provincial Park is one of the country’s most
famous wilderness areas. Also popular is the picturesque
Kawartha Lakes region. Rising majestically over the
Ottawa River, Canada’s capital is a storehouse of
national history and stately architecture that
attracts over seven million visitors each year.
