Hike along barren earth or climb alpine summits where Arctic foxes

and moody landscape of Gros Morne is like no other place on earth.

Tablelands area was created during a collision
of two continental landmasses over half a
billion years ago, when deep ocean crust
and rocks of the earth’s mantle were thrust
upward, instead of forced underneath, which
is usually the case. Erosion and glaciation
followed and now these ancient parts of our
planet lie exposed. Due to the magnesium-
rich soil in the exposed peridotite rock, very
few plant species can survive here, and so
        the landscape resembles a desert.
