                 Allosaurus 150                                                                     MILLION YEARS AGO   At this time the climate was warm and dinosaurs  dominated life on Earth. They included ferocious,  fast-moving carnivores, such as Allosaurus, as  well as giant, lumbering plant-eaters. Flying reptiles,  such as Pterodactylus, preyed on smaller animals.  By 65 million years ago, both groups were extinct.  In recent times human activity has accelerated the  rate of extinction. The dodo was a flightless bird  discovered on Mauritius in 1598.
