                                              BEATLEMANIA STRIKES BRITAIN
Screaming crowds are restrained and a casualty tended to
at the Liverpool premiere of the Beatles film Hard Day’s
Night. An estimated 200,000 people – roughly a quarter
of the city’s population – lined the streets to watch the
band’s arrival. Hundreds of police officers were called
in to control the frenzy of fans, several of whom
fainted or were injured in the crush.
