Exploring Kent and Sussex

The counties of Kent and Sussex are among the most densely populated parts
of England, but around the countryside it is still easy to find peaceful corners,
especially on the South Downs. Here and in many parts of Kent, such as Ashdown
Forest, there are wonderful opportunities for walking. Historic towns, castles,
stately mansions and gardens are spread all around the region, particularly
from southeast London down to Rye. Outside London, Canterbury and Brighton
are enticing urban centres, but smaller towns such as Chichester or Rye can
also be enjoyable places to stay. The seaside resorts around the coast offer
a choice of atmospheres, from sedate Bexhill to far more buzzing Brighton.
You can also find wild places with spectacular landscapes, as on the cliffs
near Eastbourne or on the marshes of Romney and Dungeness. Thames
