                                                                                           Situated in the southeastern corner of the
                                                                                           town, Pompeii's amphitheater dates to
                                                                                           70 BC. It survived  the eruption of Vesuvius
                                                                                           almost intact, making it the world's oldest
                                                                                           surviving Roman amphitheater.
