History of the
A-Frame
This chalet-inspired
structure (as we know it in
The View the U.S.) dates to 1934, when
A quaint cabin architect R.M. Schindler
3
between Stowe designed a California cabin
and Smugglers’ with this shape. In the
Notch, Vermont following decades, the design
made its way to the
2 East Coast, where architect
Andrew Geller designed
an A-frame resort home on
Long Island. The shape
reached peak popularity in
the mid-1960s, when
Lindal Cedar Homes began
selling construction kits
that appealed to the booming
middle class’s desire
for simple, affordable
9 vacation homes.
This woodburning
4 look-alike (it’s
actually electric!)
also comes in a matte
black finish.
