Hardanger
Embroidery
Popularized in the
Hardanger region of
Norway as far back
as the 1650s, this
geometric embroidery
art is traditionally used
to adorn bunad, or
traditional Norwegian
clothing. To spot a true
Hardanger piece, look
for square-and-triangle-
based patterns in white
thread on white linen.
Smaller decorative
pieces range from $25
to $50, while larger
tablecloths can reach
$150 to $200.
display it
Pop them into wooden
embroidery hoop
“frames” and hang on a
neutral gallery wall.
