       The eastern anchor of the Denali
       Highway, the tiny village of
       Paxson consists of little more
       than a road junction – the
       nearest gas station is at Tangle
       Lakes. However, for five days in
       early April, attendance at the
       Arctic Man Classic contest (see
       box, above) makes it the fourth
       largest city in the state.
         The area is dotted with
       vacation cabins along the shores
       of Paxson and Summit Lakes,
       and Paxson Lake has one of the
       best-maintained campgrounds
