Rochefort (see p215), in the
Province of Namur, is one of
many places in the Ardennes
to have an extensive cave
system (see pp212–13). The
Grotte de Lorette-Rochefort has
a visitor centre, from where
paths lead sharply down for 80
m (262 ft), past encrustations of
stalactites and stalagmites, to
halls of vast, rugged rock.

Bouillon (see pp234–7), located
in the south of the Ardennes,
is famous for its picturesque
medieval castle set on a rocky spur
near the Semois. Once the home of
the 11th-century crusader knight
Godefroi de Bouillon, the castle
now forms a romantic backdrop to
this quiet and elegant little town.
