       e The High Coast

Sweden’s spectacular high coast is best experienced on
a light summer evening, when the wooded hills are
reflected in the calm waters of the bays, or on the quay
in Ulvöhamn during the surströmming season (see p259),
when the peculiar speciality of fermented herring is
enjoyed with flat bread, tiny potatoes and snaps. A boat
is ideal for getting around, but the Höga kustenbron
bridge provides easy access and ferries sail regularly
from several ports. The dramatic landscape is the main Skuleskogens National Park
attraction. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Watched over by Skuleberget hill, the
park covers 30 sq km (12 sq miles) of

         tourist destination long
before the term High Coast Nordingrå
       was coined. Beautiful roads
        lined with steep hills pass
       through stunning scenery.
