Banknotes
Hungary’s currency is the forint (Ft).
Banknotes come in denominations of 500,
1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000 and 20,000. It
can be difficult to pay using Ft 10,000 and
20,000 banknotes, especially in small
stores or taxis.

Coins
The forint is available in six coin
denominations: 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200
forints. All cash transactions are therefore
rounded up or down to the nearest unit
of 5 or 10, if necessary. The international
