In this chapter, it is helpful to study opposite adjectives as you try to increase your
vocabulary in Filipino. For example, think of the following words that we have just
introduced. Try to write your own sentences using these adjectives.
Maganda – Pangit
Malaki – Maliit
Malinis – Madumi
Dagdag-Aral
Study the following addtional adjectives and how comparatives and superlatives are
formed in Filipino. For comparatives, add the word mas before the adjective, and
then use the word kaysa. For superlatives, attach the prefix pinaka-. Some of these
adjectives refer to places and some to people.
Malaki EXAMPLE: Malaki ang lungsod ng Makati.
Big
Mas Malaki EXAMPLE: Mas malaki ang lungsod ng Quezon kaysa sa lungsod
Bigger ng Makati.
Pinakamalaki EXAMPLE: Pinakamalaki ang lungsod ng Davao.
Biggest
Maliit EXAMPLE: Maliit ang Pilipinas.
Small
Mas Maliit EXAMPLE: Mas maliit ang Netherlands sa Pilipinas.
