Originally known as the cocking spaniel and used for flushing woodcock
and grouse, the English Cocker Spaniel is one of the most popular spaniel Ears fringed with

breeds. Smaller than the English Springer Spaniel (see p.224), this dog
was developed to work in dense undergrowth. Show dogs are sturdier Black saddle
and heavier than working dogs, but both make excellent pets.
