STEPS TO A BETTER WORLD
Ruby Bridges, the first African-American child to
attend an all-white elementary school in the American
South, is escorted out of the building by US marshals
dispatched by President Eisenhower for her safety.
After her enrolment, many parents withdrew
their children from the school, and all but
one teacher refused to teach Ruby.
