but paintings and sculp

modern age. 1 In his 1907 Le Bain Turc Swiss artist Félix Vallotton (1865–
1925) pays homage to NeoClassical painter JeanAuguste
Dominique Ingres’s masterpiece The Turkish Bath.
2 Venus bids farewell to Adonis before setting off on a fatal
hunt in this marble statue carved by Antonio Canova (1757–
1822); Venus is based on one of Canova’s most famous models.
3 The Miraculous Draught of Fishes is part of the altarpiece
that Konrad Witz made for the Cathédrale StPierre (p116)
in 1444. In the background is a view of Geneva.
