GETTING A LIFT
Recently hatched baby gharials, a type of
Indian crocodile with a very long, thin snout,
scramble to hitch a ride on their father’s back.
A male gharial, easily recognizable by the hollow
knob that develops on the end of his nose, is
likely to mate with several females, each of
which may lay an average of 50 eggs.
