village’s local festival takes
place in the middle of August.

road that ran from Braga to
Astorga in Spain can still be
seen at points along the
Homem river valley.
3 Surrounded by massive
rocks, Nossa Senhora da
Peneda is an elaborate
sanctuary. If it looks familiar,
it is because it is a replica of
Bom Jesus do Monte (p276).
The site is visited in early
September by pilgrims from
