I am rather fond of the Demetri Martin quote, “The earth without art is
just eh”. Needless to say, the proliferation of mega artworks adorning
the world’s walls sparks much joy in this art-loving adventurer.
There’s something special about finding splashes of art hidden down
a quiet alleyway and the in-your-face fabulousness of spotting an epic
artwork as you turn a corner. But what I love most is the opportunity street
art provides for me to discuss the political, environmental and social issues
behind many of these works with my equally street-art-enamoured children.
While my kids now know their Banksy from their Basquiat, their favourite
street artist is Australia’s own Adnate. So they were painted a vivid shade of
green when I got to chat with Matt Adnate about art, family travel and his 04
eponymous hotel, The Adnate, for our bumper summer issue.
Speaking of which, I've turned a rather fetching shade of emerald myself
as our team of family travel experts share their envy-inducing adventures
and tropical getaways. Here on home turf, they uncover Canberra’s
quirkiest secrets and enjoy a natural history lesson on Lord Howe Island.
