Language and Expression
Language conveys more than just facts. We use words
to express our feelings, to share our experiences, and
to make our friends laugh. People who speak the same
language can get to know each other easily. People
who don’t may struggle to understand each other.
In the story you are about to read, Elisa has just
moved to the United States. She has plenty of thoughts
and feelings, but she feels awkward expressing them
in English. When she starts school, she must find a way
to overcome this language barrier and adjust to her
new home.
