E GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE JUNIOR BEEF SHOWS AND SALE
1. The Junior Beef Shows and Sale are sponsored by the Western North Carolina Beef Commission and the N.C. Mountain State
S Fair. The Western North Carolina Beef Commission will sponsor ribbons and trophies, unless so stated in this book. Additional
H premiums and classes may be offered by the Western North Carolina Beef Commission in addition to what is presented by
the N.C. Mountain State Fair.
O 2. Any youth in the counties of western North Carolina, west of and including Avery, Burke, Rutherford, Polk, and McDowell
W Counties, are eligible to exhibit. The project must have been supervised and approved by an Extension Agent or agricultural
educator.
S 3. Boys and girls 21 years of age and under as of January 1 of the current show year are eligible to participate. Youth 15 years
of age and over as of January 1 will be considered Senior exhibitors, youth 12 through 14 years of age as of January 1 will be
Intermediate exhibitors, and youth 9 through 11 years old as of January 1 will be considered Junior exhibitors. Youth under 9
years old will show in non-competitive classes only. A trophy will be awarded to each exhibitor in these non-competitive classes.
4. The Health Regulations of the Veterinary Division of the N.C. Department of Agriculture will be strictly enforced. Be sure to
read these under “Rules & Regulations of the Livestock Division” before entering. Animals cannot be unloaded until checked in.
5. All animals must be shown at halter.
6. If an exhibitor has more than one animal in a class, the second entry may be shown by an exhibitor approved by the show
superintendent.
7. Each exhibitor or buyer must assume all liability in the case of death or injury to his/her livestock.
8. In any case where questions arise that are not covered specifi cally by these or the following rules, the decision of the WNC Jr.
Beef Show Rules Committee will be fi nal.
9. In the Feeder Steer, Market Steer, and Heifer Shows, fi rst place will return to compete for Grand Champion with the second
place class winners standing by for Reserve Champion competition. In the event that the fi rst place class winner is not eligible
for, or withdraws from, the Championship class, the second and third place winners will participate as stated.
10. Premiums paid by the NC Mountain State Fair will be based on actual class placing (1st - 5th). WNC Beef Cattle Commission
will pay Blue, Red, and White show placing and premiums for showmanship show classes. WNC Beef Cattle Commission will
provide all trophies except for Non-Competitive class which will be provided by the NC Mountain State Fair.
