OBJECTIVES
To introduce electric circuits and its analysis.
To provide knowledge on solving circuits using network theorems
To introduce the phenomenon of resonance in series and parallel circuits.
To impart knowledge on obtaining the transient response of RC, RL and RLC circuits.
To provide knowledge on three phase circuits.
UNIT I DC CIRCUITS ANALYSIS 12
Ohm’s Law – Kirchoff’s laws – Resistors in series and parallel circuits – Mesh current and node voltage
method of analysis, Source transformation, voltage and current division method - Network reduction
using circuit theorems- Thevenin’s and Norton’s Theorem – Superposition Theorem – Maximum power
transfer theorem – Reciprocity Theorem.
UNIT II AC CIRCUIT ANALYSIS 12
Series and Parallel RL, RC and RLC circuits, Phasor Diagram – Power, Power Factor - star delta
conversion – Network reduction using circuit theorems for AC circuits.
UNIT III RESONANCE AND COUPLED CIRCUITS 12
Series and parallel resonance –frequency response – Quality factor and Bandwidth - Self and mutual
inductance – Coefficient of coupling –Tuned Circuits-Single Tuned Circuits
UNIT IV TRANSIENT RESPONSE FOR DC AND AC CIRCUITS 12
Transient response of RL, RC and RLC Circuits using Laplace transform for DC input and A.C.
sinusoidal input.
UNIT V THREE PHASE CIRCUITS 12
Three phase balanced / unbalanced voltage sources – analysis of three phase 3-wire and 4-wire circuits
with star and delta connected loads, balanced & unbalanced - phasor diagram of voltages and currents –
power and power factor measurements in three phase circuits.
TOTAL: 60 PERIODS
OUTCOMES:
On completion of the course, the students will be able to
analyse the DC circuits
realise the working of AC circuits
apply circuit theorems for DC and AC circuits
analyse the transient response of DC and AC Circuits
realise the concepts of three phase AC circuits
