Sam Ovraiti
Sam Ovraiti was born in Zaria in 1961, He was educated at the famous Auchi Polytechnic, Auchi
Harmony and the university of Benin,Benin city, where he obtained a Higher National Diploma (HND)
and a Masters of Fine Art (MFA) degree (painting) respectively.
48 x 30 inches, Sam taught painting, drawing and illustration at the Auchi Polytechnic for a period of eight
Beads on board, years.There he mentored many young artists who are now world class. In 1993 he voluntarily
2019 moved on to pursue a full-time art practice in Lagos. His paintings have become famous for his
soothing colours and are loved by artists, at collectors, and art lovers the world over. The colour
sense displayed in his paintings transmute in people an almost magical feeling.
Sam has been honored with numerous academic and professional recognitions and
awards including ;Best overall graduating student ;1st place winner at the Mobil producing
Nigeria art competition in 1983, Top three Nigerian artist at the Guinness Nigeria National art
competition 2004.
As a top flight artist, he is acclaimed to be one of the most expressive water colourist in
Nigeria. A large amount of his paintings address largely the concerns of the female gender in
our society.
Sam has handled on merit, art projects such as the first international conference center
Abuja, numerous artistic beautification at star hotels .His works have found their way in
important collections like the national council for art and craft.
He is widely exhibited and his works are being featured in reputable art auction such as the Melody Makers
bornhams art Auction, Art house Art auction, sogal art auction and MTK Art auctions. He is a
member of the society of Nigerian artists,a founding member of the Guild of professional fine 30 x 36 inches,
artists of Nigeria and a patron of watercolour society Nigeria. He is the present director of the Oil on canvas,
Harmattan workshops.
