FOOTBALL
This year's football team will long be remembered
for its never-say-die spirit and its "stick-to-itive-
ness." Week after week the ferocious Quakers would
shake off in juries to key players and produce a
championship effort on the gridiron.
The high point of the campaign was the Provi
dence Country Day game. Playing before a home
coming crowd in East Providence, the Animals pro
duced their finest effort of the season. With their
offense wheeling and dealing at its best, and a rock-
ribbed defense giving ground grudgingly if at all,
the Quakers completely outclassed their crosstown
rivals, triumphing by the score of 20-6.
The entire team is to be praised for the effort put
forth and for fhe success achieved. Co-captain Ed
Ricci (Quaker MVP) and co-captain Tom Burnett,
leading scorer and ground gainer, were season-long
sources of inspirafion. Dave Scott showed frequent
flashes of brilliance at quarterback. Alvin McCully,
whose brittle legs prevented him from completely
realizing his considerable potential, and Ricky Bern-
stingle, who was Coach Zeoli's jack of all trades, are
to be highly commended.
The offensive line was centered around mammoth
Peter Gebhard, who was flanked at guards by Ricci
and Mark Estes, and at tackles by Je ff Blunf and Tim
Hawfield. Pass catching duties were shared by Brad
Barnes, Jack Mahoney, and Greg Bragg. Special
praise is due to Buddy Beckel, John Gentile, and
Clarkson Collins, who were defensive mainstays all
season long.
Tommy Burnett heads upfield on another long run.
