SOCCER
The 1966 Soccer Team was perhaps the best
that Moses Brown has ever fielded. The starting
team included three-year lettermen, and Co-
Captains John Watson and Tom Ferguson, and
seniors Larry Tingley, Dave Piccus, Chico Rou-
main, John Femino and John Lewis. Juniors Alan
Hill, Bobby Freedman, Rick Moeller and Sopho
more Chip Celestino rounded out the team. The
1967 Co-Captains Bill Roland and Dave Steere
also have returning several promising players in
Tom Hough, Dave Raphael and Nat Earle.
High points of the season can be found in vic
tories over Pomfret, a loss last year, and St.
George's which before this year an M.B. soccer
team had never beaten since soccer's revival
six years ago. The team's finest hour came at
Tabor Academy November 8 on a cold, windy,
rainy afternoon when they knocked undefeated
(8-0) Tabor from the unbeaten ranks at Marion,
Mass. Bobby Freedman tied the score eliminat
ing a 1-0 deficit after nearly three periods of
scoreless play. Two goals by Chico Roumain and
one by Tom Ferguson closed out the scoring.
The game was a veritable blend of teamwork,
talent and that element of subdued determina
tion which marked the 1966 season; which left
the team with a near-perfect 9-1 record, and
whi ch was a tribute to the coaching of Mr.
Smyth.
