A topic on a lot of people’s minds
these days is terrorism. That’s not
surprising, considering the current
state of turmoil in the world, and it’s an is
sue many people had to consider carefully
before deciding to travel abroad. That in
cludes the Ralston High French Club, which
almost had to cancel its summer ’86 visit to
Paris, due to the United States involvement
in Libya.
It’s no wonder that there were hesitations.
Many people are reluctant to get on an
airplane with all the bombings. Just last
Christmas, massive shootings were reported
in the airports of Vienna and Rome. With
actions like this in mind, the French Club
had to be very careful.
Senior French Club member Lisa Konruff
said, “When the news about Libya broke
out, there were some hesitations . . . there
were a few times when we had to call
’emergency meetings’, parents and all, but
the final outcome was ’Go for it!”’
That was the final outcome for most
members. There were a few who didn’t feel
it was safe to travel. Three students and one
chaperone dropped out of the trip all
together, reported Konruff.
