                                     the  facility  an d   fo rcefuln ess  w ith   w h ich   he  p resen ted   President
                          T h eo do re  R o o sev elt’s  In au g u ral  A d d ress.   M a rsh a ll  M a c lsa a c   w as  aw arded
                          second  prize  w ith   his  d eclam atio n ,  Verdun,  by  R aym o n d   P oincare.  H onorable
                          m ention  for  a  selection  from   Edm ond  R o stan d ’s  Cyrano  de  Bergerac  w ent  to
                          P h ilip   Jastram .
                              T h e  Senior  D eclam atio n   C ontest  for  the  A lice  A .  R azee,  C lass  of  1875,
                          D eclam atio n   P rize  w as  held  before  the  school  in  A lu m n i  H a ll  on  F eb ruary  27.
                          T h e  first  prize  w en t  to  T ay lo r  C otter  for  his  sp len d id   in terp retatio n   of  a  selec­
                          tion  from   M ark   T w a in ’s  Adventures of  Toni  Sawyer.  D w ig h t  W a r in g   received
                          second  prize  for  the  in sp irin g   m an ner  in  w h ich   he  d eliv ered   a  portion  of
                          W illia m   Jen n in gs  B ryan 's  Cross  of Gold  speech.  O ther  sp eakers  and  th eir  pres­
                          entatio n s  w ere:  three  Sh ak esp earean   sonnets,  W illia m   H .  M yer;  P resident
                         W ils o n ’s War Message, R o n ald   A . N o rto n ;  N ich o las M u rray   B u tle r’s Patriotism,
                          L aurence  M .  Sm ith;  C arl  Schurz’s  Let  Us  Have  Peace,  V in cen t  B ow ditch;
                          E dgar  A llan   P oe’s  The  Raven,  P h ilip   M .  K elsey.  T h e  m erito rio u s  co ach in g  of
                          M r.  P axton  w as  easily  perceived  in  both  the  Ju n io r  and  the  Senior  D eclam atio n
                          C ontests.  T h e  Ju d ges  w ere  M iss  K im b erlin ,  M r.  W a u g h te l,  an d   M r.  T hom as.
