JUNIOR SPOTLIGHT: MAKALAH MCELROY

Makalah is a proud member of the O’Dowd stu­

dent body. She is involved in a myriad of activi­

ties both in and out of school, and is a member

. v

mM of the Dragon Ambassadors, Dance Committee,

and Spirit and Rally Committee, and Black Stu­

'M dent Union executive council. Makalah enjoys

teaching others about her culture, and learning

about other cultures as well. When asked about

her favorite O’Dowd event, she responded

immediately with Multicultural Week. For her

IS Anawim Service Project, Makalah volunteers

at the George Mark Children’s House, a pallia­

tive care center in San Leandro. “I want to give

back to my community and show that someone

cares.... It feels really good to know you’re

making a big impact on kids’ lives,” says Maka­

lah. Makalah is a great example of the positive

impact O’Dowd students can leave on the mem­

bers of a community.
