24 Years at Pine Crest
Nadia: Mrs. Birr, what is your favorite grade to teach?
Mrs.Birr: Well Eve always enjoyed teaching the Seniors. They are always the most mature
not to mention the fact that they are getting ready to enter the real world, life. I enjoy having
the ability to prepare them for college.
Josephra: Did you always enjoy English?
Mrs.Birr: Ever since I can remember English was my favorite subject. All throughout high
school and even college, I’ve loved English.
Nadia: What has been your favorite topic to teach or read?
Mrs.Birr: I’ve most enjoyed teaching Hamlet.
Josephra: How long have you been at Pine Crest?
Mrs.Birr: I’ve been teaching here since 1975. I began as a substitute,
but in 1976,1 became a full time teacher here.
Josephra: Do you enjoy being head of the Englilsh Department?
What are your responsibilities?
Mrs.Birr: Well, most of all, I make sure the we are up to date with
what we are teaching. I coordinate the teachers’ programs such as
literature, grammar, and vocabulary. I am also responsible for finding
good teachers for the department as well as to evaluate the teachers
once they’ve began teacher here. It’s almost like having an extra
class only rather than students it’s of teachers.
Nadia: What are your words for the future for the Class of 2000 and
the other students?
Mrs.Birr: Attitude not apptitude determines your altitude— that’s
why bees can fly.
Mrs. Birr aides student Alissa
Akins in augmenting her
attitude and apptitude so that
she can heighten her altitude.
