Its a bird, it’s a plane. No I think not. It’s the new Dean of Students, Mr.
David Clark. Of all the new changes during the 1999-2000 school year, Mr. Clark’s
presence seems to be the most apparent and significant change. As he walks
through the halls, students quickly glance at him then check themselves to make
sure that they are in dress code. Although Mr. Clark knows he has authority over
everyone, including the JUNIORS, he stresses that he is here to help, aid, and en
courage student growth. That is, after all, his job description. Yet some students feel the need to reject
authority. One junior sumed it up as “He pretends to be your friend and then gives you a work detail".
Although Mr. Clark vehnemly denies the friendship/detention attack, he does concide to the increase in
work details due to his dealings. In general, the JUNIOR class as a whole has responded to Mr. Clark’s
position with reserved feelings. Mr. Clark’s rebuttal includes his persistant stand that he is here for the
students and he will do what ever possible to help them. But., he finds no remorse for students that con
tinually are repeat offenders. Although he wants to be your “friend”, consider him as a strict parent when
you intentionally break the Pine Crest system of buearocratic rule. With every negative, there comes a
reverse. John Koury feels “He is doing his job for what he was hired for and he’s much more sympathetic
to what the students request than Dr. Huebsch or Mr. Turner. In conclusion, JUNIORS beware. We still
have one more year.
