Coming
alive again
o students, spring meant
T something more than birds
and buds. It meant school getting
out and being one step closer to
summer.
Outdoor activities included
water sports, picnicking, sun
tanning, and jogging.
To others spring was going out
and shopping around for new
clothes for summer. And still
others were hunting for summer
jobs, which were harder to come
by due to an increase in
unemployment.
Spring also brought the solution
of a major building problem. For
quite a while all of the clocks read
7:30 and no one ever knew what
time it was. Then a new digital
clock system was installed in the
office, and things were back to
normal.
April showers were snow storms
which made it seem as though
spring were never going to get
here. Just when students though
they could put away their shovels,
it would snow again.
When spring finally got here the
old hang-outs opened. Dodge
Street added a change of pace to
the Ralston night life. People from
school around the Omaha area
drained their gas tanks cruising the
main drag. While it gave students a
chance to make new friends from
other schools, the main attraction
on Dodge seemed to be the street
machines that congregated in
parking lots and on the street
itself. Some came to “show," some
came to “ go," and some did a little
of both.
Drive-ins, miniature golf courses,
the Henry Doorly Zoo and
Rosenblatt Stadium also opened
once the weather got warmer.
Dressing up in green was the traditional thing
to do on St. Patrick's Day. Seniors Alen lenn
and Bob Rolle show off their wild costumes.
