After a few weeks, students may feel burdened down with class
work. When pressures become overwhelming, they seek a diver
sion from studies. Some stay on campus and order pizza, while
others go to the mall to look for bargains or just window-shop.
W ith several options for recreation, couples may go out for dinner
or take long walks at Hyde Park.
On the weekend, many students go home or to a friends
house to relax, sleep, do laundry, or visit local attractions. Al
though students enjoy their friends’ company, they also spend time
helping others. Some participate in weekend service projects spon
sored by the college, their local churches, or Greeks. Since leisure
time is scarce, students take advantage of activities that provide
diversion from their schoolwork.
Regardless of the demands of college life, they find time to
relax and serve others. Students should not allow school to over
whelm them to the point they cannot reflect on the enjoyable
times they share with friends or the times they participate in Chris
tian ministries. As a student, it is important to remember, “A
man’s heart deviseth his way: but the L o r d directeth his steps.’’
(Proverbs 16:9) Whatever diversion one takes, the activity should
bring glory and honor to God.
