According to the Dean of Enrollment Services, Mr. Ben Puckett,
a 1976 graduate, at the beginning of the college the student body
was predominately from the United States with only a few inter
national students. Students from nine countries help to bring
diversity to the campus. We have students from India, New
Zealand and Switzerland for the first time.
Since the only funding foreign students can receive is from
the institution or through private sources, the college created a
scholarship for them. “The catastrophe of 9/11 has made it in
creasingly harder to get international students unless they have
dual citizenship. Difficulty in meeting the financial costs for higher
education in the states and an increasing concern for national se
curity are the prevailing reasons today for fewer international stu
dents on our college campuses,” Mr. Puckett said.
Learning cultural differences from our interaction with peers
from other countries influences our beliefs and practices. We pray
that God will bring students from other cultures to open our eyes
and hearts to others. Jeremiah 17:10 states, “I the Lord search the
heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways,
and according to the fruit of his doings.” Despite cultural barri
ers, God unites the world around His Word.
