A pinch o f generosity
On Friday Dec. 16 the Red Cross came to Ralston High
School for its annual Bloodmobile.
Sponsoring it was Debbie Ziegler's Health Occupations
classes.
The drive to get donors started at the beginning of
December with the goal to get 125 people signed up, so
the Red Cross could count on at least 100 pints of blood.
The extra 25 would be an approximation of the number
deferred due to illness or other problems arising in their
medical history.
The goal, however, was not to be set as only 78 or
so people volunteered. The Bloodmobile went on hoping
for a large amount of walk-ins, donors from the community.
Last year a total of 121 students, faculty members and
people of the community volunteered and only nine were
deferred.
According to Joan Jensen, Red Cross Supervisor, all the
blood given in the bloodmobile will have been used within
three days after the donation.
When the figures were tallied and given to Mrs. Ziegler,
she exclaimed with a proud smile, "Well guys we actuallv
did it!" y
The Bloodmobile met its quota exactly with 118 donors
and only 18 deferrals.
Surrounded by help is English
teacher Jan Rowley having her
temperature and pulse taken
by junior Chris Mulligan, one of
the nurses and junior Cheryl
Rodgers.
