An Interview With Elizabeth Byrnes
This year RHS introduced the "R Pantry," a food pantry dedicated to serving those in
h need in the community. The pantry is run by NHS O fficer Elizabeth Byrnes.

Elizabeth puts in 2 0 -3 0 hours every week organizing, ordering, picking up, unloading
food, and reloading the pantry.
Elizabeth: The pantry was started by my NHS sponsors Dr. Daniel Boster and
Andrea Hartman with the goal to reduce food insecurity in the Ralston area. I
decided to take on this project because getting an education is extremely
difficult and I could not imagine doing it while wondering where my next meal is
coming from.
Elizabeth: With the help of other NHS volunteers, the pantry has definitely
become more efficient. I am beyond grateful for all of the work my classmates
Clubs
have put in. By decreasing food insecurity, my fellow classmates can focus more
on their classes and increase their successes while in high school, so they can be
more prosperous in their future.
