With the May, 1988 commencement, Allentown College
completes its twenty-third year of operation. It’s hard for
those of us who have heen with the College from the beginning
to realize that more than two decades have passed since we
first laid eyes on the cornfields of Center Valley. It is even
harder to believe the growth that we have witnessed in those
twenty years. The acorn has become a tree — not a fully
grown oak perhaps, but a healthy tree that continues to grow.
Since you, the Class of ’88 joined us in the fall of 1984 we
have grown from a student body of about 1,200 to one of
1,750; we have added College Heights to our student residence
complex; we have completely renovated McShea Center; and
we have huilt the magnificent new Trexler Library. The last
four years — like the nineteen years that preceded them —
have been years filled with blessings, like years of marvelous
growth.
The critical ingredient in all this growth has heen faith. Our
faith in God, and our students’ and their families’ faith in us.
As you leave us, we thank you for that faith. We thank you
for believing in us.
Now it is our turn to believe in you. Ami we do. We believe
you will succeed in your careers, and — what is much more
important — we believe you will succeed in living good and
useful lives.
In all human enterprises, those who follow profit from the
contributions of those who have gone before. Just as you have
profited from students’ contributions of the past twenty years,
so will those who follow profit from the very real contributions
you have made to the growth and vitality of Allentown College.
We thank you for those contributions; we congratulate you on
your graduation; and we wish you well, a s-\
