FRESHMEN 'MOMENTS IN TIME'
Some Freshmen English classes have been reading 'A
Tale of Two Cities' by Charles Dickens. I guess the opening
lines pretty well sum up our freshman 'moment in time'. It
sounds like a perfect description of freshman year. Dickens
begins by stating, “It was the best of times, it was the worst
of times . . . " That's freshman year or certain. Ah, the best
of times — new friends, new challenges, new and exciting
responsibilities. Finally we're in High School! High School,
which once seemed so far off and unreal, now it's here. Our
own locker! Lots of teachers, a huge school, so many
people! So much to learn! But . . . wait, all of the sudden
we're also on the bottom of the barrel. No longer the big
eighth grade leaders, the rulers of the school. What a re
versal. Still, as one of our teachers kept saying, that's life,
filled with reversals. We have to make the best of it and keep
growing. I guess that's my prayer as a freshman. Oh Lord,
in these best and worst of times, help me to use my moment
in time to grow and meet the new challenges ahead."
