The success of this year’s intramural athletic program can
be attributed to the addition of numerous special events,
increased participation, and the organization of the intramural
committees. Regardless of the event, the competition was
always intense and tempers often flared. R game-ending brawl
in the playoffs between the Crew Crew and the Black Plague
brought the flag-football season to an abrupt and earlg
termination.
The intensity of these sports is inspired by the satisfaction
of winning a simple tee-shirt which just may very well be the
most highly coveted possession in “ Centaur Ualley.”
R total of fifteen special events were sponsored by the
men's and women’s intramural committees. These included
field hockey, darts, 3-on-3 basketball, wiffle ball, one-pitch
softball, Z-on-Z and ft-on-4 volleyball, coed softball, mixed
doubles tennis, kick ball and scrambles golf. Nang of the
special events contributed to the increased number of students
remaining at school for the weekends.
The regular intramural leagues were also a huge success.
The number of teams increased in each sport, as well as the
spectators.
Nuch of this success in the intramural program can be
attributed to the Intramural Director, Robin Ring, who in only
her second year in this position has managed to turn the
whole program around.
The intramural year came to a close with the awarding of
plaques for Intramural Athletes of the Year at the annual
sports banquet in Nay. Rt this time, seniors Tim UJeir and
Chris Ualentini were presented with this honor.
You could always expect a little hit from Kathy Maier.
U/ith the hard work of Ns. Ring and the Intramural
Committees the tradition of the intramural programs will
continue to grow.
