Student sections are a big part of local athletic games. They bring
out the energy and enthusiasm to show the supportive side of a school. For
Ralston, support comes from our Rowdies. “The Rowdies are a bunch of
high school students who support Ralston Athletics. We do crazy themes
and cheer on our teams by being as loud and obnoxious as we can!”
Robbie McEvoy is a huge participant of the Rowdies, from going to ever)'
football game glammed up in the theme to even running a Twitter account
with over 400 followers showcasing the Rowdies in action
(@ Ralston_Rowdies).
Being a Rowdy has a few differences from being a routine participant
of a student section. “I think the main difference from our section
compared to others is how friendly the environment is, plus we get to
choose the theme ideas for every week,” said McEvoy.
The Rowdies are loud and really energetic, which can turn off a lot of
people that feel shy about letting out their inner Ram. When asked about
anyone in a situation like this, McEvoy responded with something he
hopes will reach out to those people. “I would tell them what being a
Rowdy really is and how everyone is very kind. We are always looking to
include all students and we don't want to scare them away.”
The Rowdies will always be a big part of each athletic season and we
don't think competitions would be the same without the presence of their
enthusiasm. Every year is always the first year for some Rowdies, and for
others it is also their last. The Rowdies will always welcome these people
onto the bleachers and hopefully those people will leave with loud
thoughts, because that is what the Rowdies are all about.
