students. On a more serious note, one of the most profound and moving
events of opening week was Convocation. Administration, faculty, and
1 STUDENT BODY staff came together in a circle surrounding the student body to pray
for God's blessings for the coming school year. Of this event, Mr.
Robert Carver, of the Bible department, said, "Convocation gets us
off to the right start at the beginning of a new school year. The faculty
dressed in their regalia brings into focus the academic nature of what
we are entering into. The message from the Bible addresses the heart
and brings into focus the most important aspect of the education that
is offered here."
The activities of opening week will be remembered by new stu
dents for the rest of their college careers. "The friends that I made at
freshman activities are still my friends today. They are some of my best
friends," said senior Ted DeWalt. It was during these special functions
that first impressions were formed and lasting friendships made. Those
who faced their fears of the unknown benefited the most, and those
who filled their time with meeting people and having the best possible
attitude did not have the chance to be homesick or to worry about what
J
was to come. Opening week may be just the beginning, but it is most
assuredly the most pivotal time in the college chapter.
